"In Spirals" Installation

Image
Artwork Installation I was able to locate a space where I could install all fifteen large works of art related to my series "In Spirals".  Here is my artist statement. On the left you can see all of the watercolor pieces.  On the back wall is all of the pieces made from dried rose petals.  On the right is a series of Fantasy Collages that I made from old calendars.

Fantasy Collages

In 2024 I purchased two calendars: Zen Garden and Classic Fairy Tales.  After the 2025 new year, I began to deconstruct and reassemble these calendars to create epic and dramatic scenes.  For example, in Fantasy Collage #1, a young man must fight giant birds to rescue a damsel in distress.  Additionally, a man, a horse and a chicken go on a journey together. The narratives are open to interpretation.  I enjoyed repurposing these calendars which otherwise would have ended up in the trash.  It was also fun to return to my favorite type of art-making: collage! "In Time"

Image
"In Time" I always thought it would be cool to marry somebody with the last name Time and give birth to a child named Justin so he could be Justin Time.  This one is supposed to resemble a clock.

"In A Hurry"

Image
"In A Hurry" On average I created one or two pieces of art per month during this series.  During a particularly busy month, I felt rushed and so I just created a sketch.  This is what all my paintings look like before I add the watercolor.  It's supposed to be an attempt at humor.   Check out my artist statement for more information about this series.

"In Conversation"

Image
"In Conversation" This was the very first work of art that I created for this series about spirals.  Here is my artist statement. This spiral is much larger than the other one because I drew all the way to the edges.  There is no border.  I was interested in how we tend to have the same conversations over and over, especially if you have a repetitive job.  However there are nuances and minute variations each day.  When you zoom out and look at the intersections of these variations, I think it creates an interesting kaleidoscope where blues and yellows mix into greens.

Artist Statement: In Spirals

Rebecca Rose Miller  Artist Statement: In Spirals I propose that life evolves in spirals, not lines or circles.  Each day is the same and yet full of fascinating differences.  These colorful intersections create the kaleidoscope we refer to as “life”.  I created these pieces while teaching French at Summer Creek from 2023 - 2024.  They all contain titles that are “In” Spired and In Spirals. As a language teacher, I enjoyed exploring the possibilities of expressions containing the preposition “in”.  Some of them are obvious like the red, yellow, orange color scheme of “In Autumn”.  Some of them are personal like “In Mourning” I painted when my grandmother passed away.  Other examples include “In Trouble”, “In Time”, “In Pain”, “In Bloom”, “In Heat”, “In Conversation”, “In Pink” and so forth.   Five of the pieces are made from dried rose petals arranged in a spiral configuration.  These were very easy to make and I get the most...
