Self Portrait in style of Van Gogh/Matisse

After working at the MFAH for the Van Gogh exhibit, I was inspired to create a self-portrait in his style.
My teacher pointed out that the amoeba shapes, the green background and the flatness of the composition are much more in the style of Matisse:
