Gray's Anatomy Series

Image
I knew that I ultimately wanted to return to my studies of anatomy.  I had some concerns about copyright so I discovered these Gray's Anatomy plates which are so old they are considered public domain.  I think they are pretty cool so I'm exploring a new series where I interpret these plates in watercolor.   This first one is various views of a sweat gland.  Fascinating.

Sherbet Falls

Image
Sherbet falls.  Watercolor on paper.  24 x 36" (unframed).  2025. I was trying to be a little more restrained with the application of paint on this one.  All I can say is it reminds me of a waterfall of melted sherbet.  It could probably be a little more developed, but I enjoy the minimalist aspect of it.

A Creeping Impatience

A Creeping Impatience.  Watercolor on paper.  24 x 36" (unframed).  2025. I was trying to fill in a darker background, but it was taking forever.  The black "drips" appear to be creeping upwards (just like how I was becoming impatient).  The paper was already so buckled I decided to shut it down and move on.

Cosmos 3

I did a series of these space-inspired watercolor paintings somewhat quickly.  It felt good to be let off the leash from the detailed anatomy drawings.  It's not too back-breaking because I work for a few minutes, then allow that layer to dry while I do something else.   I'm pretty aggressive with the water for the wet-on-wet technique which is causing the paper to buckle.  I sorta wish the paper would remain flat.  The visual structure remains spiral or radial in essence, but I think this one has a lot of fun surprises.   Cosmos 3.  Watercolor on paper.  24. x 36 " (unframed).  2025.

Volunteer & Docent @HCCC

Volunteering at a Hands on Houston event. Since I moved back into the inner loop of Houston I've been spending a lot of time volunteering and preparing to be a docent for the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.  I really love this art space and enjoy giving my time while serving members of the local community there. Here are a few photos of some of my favorite pieces recently on display...
